TARA Projects is an organization based in Delhi, India which unites artisans from around the area to create and sell their products in a fair trade market. TARA Projects stands for “Trade Alternative Reform Action.” Working in a 125-mile radius of Delhi, TARA is a fair trade program for community development and business. TARA Projects defends the rights of the underprivileged, especially women and children, by opposing child labor, exploitation and poverty. Their goal is to end injustice and manipulation in the world mass trade system and provide financial security through regular work at living wages, crafts training and marketing services. Artisans and craftsmen are empowered not only by employment, but by the encouragement of continuing their cultural arts and traditional lifestyle. TARA Projects was founded in 1973 to help poorly organized and struggling artisans in Delhi find markets for their goods. By creating opportunities for these home-based craftsmen to market and sell their goods, TARA projects generates steady work and income.
